Safety The most effective method against motorcycle thieves
The strong mechanical protection and the loud alarm are the most likely to dissuade the bad guys from their intentions - so we present these in our article.
First: we have a useful tip for owners who have been on the loose: after the loved bike has disappeared, carefully search the area and surrounding streets. Check the hidden parking lots and dark little streets, because thieves often "rest" their cars and motorcycles there. Then they wait a few days, and then go back for them later: when the police are no longer so active in the area.
Thieves can simply push away a smaller bike if it is not locked. If they want to risk less, they go with a closed van to collect the bike: two powerful guy can load the motocycle into the cargo compartment and disappear within seconds, like a gray donkey in the fog.
You can do a lot for the machine if you choose a safe place for storage, i.e. you don't give the bad guys a chance. A closed garage is the way to go, especially if the door itself is protected by several mechanical structures. If you don't have one, choose a place where your bikes are always in sight. For example, ask the guard of the underground garage or paid parking lot close to your residence to let you park the moped next to the guard booth. Besides the garden of high-traffic offices fenced with a barrier and covered by cameras is not a bad choice either. This is not life insurance, but it is quite certain that thieves do not like to work "in sight", so in such cases they prefer to look for other, easier prey.
The brake disc lock that you can easily take with you can be very useful, as it is easy to handle and fits in a bag or the motorcycle's own box when not in use, or even under the saddle. There are also front brake disc locks with alarm and/or motion-sensing available, which notify the owner while the theft is being prepared.
The so-called U-padlocks or their versions with a loop cable, which also protect the wheel, can work great. What's more, stout chains made of steel wire or hardened steel are also worth considering. Place the chain in such a way that it does not touch the ground, as it is much more difficult to cut or break it. This is one of the reasons why it is recommended to drill the safety eye on the wall instead of the ground in the garage, to which you chain the engine.
